Our students are found to be in the state of confusion in the matter of science because it is a subject in the school curriculum that they have to study to reach the next standard and to ensure jobs from it. Dear students! The fact is that science is the name of unlocking all the secrets of the universe that have been kept secret, of becoming familiar with all the codes and mysteries of the living system, of realizing the facts of the existence of the earth and the sky and all the creatures between them, and of putting emotional thought in its place, however, it is through science that logical and rational thoughts and new angles of thinking are created. 2 Dear students! If scientific progress is so important, then the backwardness of our community on the front of modern science and technology is surprising and regrettable because today there are 57 Muslim countries on this planet with a total area of not less than 30 million square kilometers. These countries own three fourths of the world’s mineral oil and natural gas reserves. Of course, a small island, Japan, spends four times as much as all these countries spend on modern science and technology. Now the inevitable result of this is:
We had access to sciences like science, mathematics, psychology, medicine, logic, mathematics and philosophy. Of course, the decline in intellectual and scientific trends among Muslims began around the 12th century when they put up regular signboards for ‘religion’ and ‘world’ and terms like ‘our religion’ and ‘your science’ came into existence. The most prominent role during that period was played by Imam Ghazali (may Allah be pleased with him) through his ‘Ihya’ul-Uloom’ when he declared non-Islamic sciences like medicine and mathematics as obligatory. Imam Ghazali (may Allah be pleased with him) considered some of the important arts of his time like lancet cutting (current surgery), farming (agriculture), textile weaving (textiles), etc. as fard kifayah and said that those sciences and arts are not directly related to the Sharia, but ignoring or being indifferent to them can lead to disorder in society and poverty of a person. Unfortunately, this invaluable guidance was not taken seriously and only three centuries after Imam Ghazali, the eminent historian Ibn Khaldun 5 wrote in the introduction to his famous history, “We have heard that there is talk of natural sciences in the northern regions of the Roman Sea, the country of the Franks. But we know this much that the problems of nature have no place in our religious affairs and they have no importance, therefore it is better for us to stay away from these natural sciences.” You have observed, even an eminent and irreplaceable scholar like Ibn Khaldun did not have the slightest curiosity about natural sciences! Five hundred years before this, the taste and passion of Muslims was such that they reached Shahpur and Harran to benefit from Greek and Christian sources in search of knowledge. They established high-level international Darul Uloom in Baghdad, Cairo and other cities. They built several laboratories called Shamisa where many scientists of the Islamic world used to gather! When negligence, shortcomings and despair set in, our downfall began. Its effect was present even before the misfortune and is still present today:
